Tuesday, February 7, 2012
Call to order: The meeting came to order at 6pm in room 107 at Preble High School.
Roll Call: Coach Donart, Diane and Mike Nitti, Julie and Paul Kinjerski, Joanne DiSalvi, Cathy Wavrunek, Kim Reimer, Becky Sinclair, Jim O’Neil, Mike Kollmansberger, Mike Reignier, Patti Harrill, Julie Dougherty, Pete Nelson and Kim Riemer.
Coach’s Report:
- Coach Donart discussed the successful workout program and shared some of the charts showing the positive results.
- The program has gone through 21 gallons of chocolate milk. Ways to continue financing the milk program was discussed.
- Protein shakers have been provided to the athletes attending the workouts. Coach recommends using whey protein mixed with Gatorade after working out. Concentrating on building up the athletes’ size as Coach felt the team was undersized compared to some of the teams they played against last year.
- The “test out” results are posted in the locker room to encourage the players by showing them their gains.
- The jug machines purchased by the QBC this fall continue to be used Tuesday mornings with wide receiver workouts/practices.
- Coach would like to start using the “Remind 101” text message system to remind all football players to attend workouts. Currently only players attending the morning wide receiver workouts use it, but he coach would like to expand it team wide later.
- Coach showed us the “Huddle” online program where the team films are stored for each school to use for scouting and the boys are able to view the game and how they did. College coaches are able to contact the high school coaches to request access to the films to watch players they are interested in scouting.
- The coaches are working on plans and dates for visiting feeder schools and football teams to help recruit the incoming freshman team. Possible dates include student only meetings at Edison on April 24 &26, and possibly May 1 & or 3 at Red Smith. A recommendation was made that the coaches also contact the local private schools.
- May 22 there will be a meeting for all incoming 9th grade fall sport athletes and their parents to meet with the coaches and get information and paperwork necessary to participate.
- Discussed the summer workout program and the possibility of participating in a summer passing league. This league would be for the skilled positions and possibly the centers of the football teams. They would compete against other local high schools. Our coaches cannot be involved, so they will need parent volunteers.
- The football camp will be held July 23-26 and possibly the 27. QBC provided refreshments and volunteers to give out refreshments during the 2011 camp, and coach would like to see this continue.
- Regular season practice will begin Aug. 6.
- The season was shortened to an 8 game season. We will not be playing Bay Port this year.
- The team needs 9 new helmets this year. Coach asked if the club would be able to help with the purchase. Mike Reignier volunteered to look into a helmet-purchasing program for the team.
Committee Reports:
Merchandise/Apparel:
- 194 items remaining from last year. Discussed having an apparel “sale” at the Meet the Team Night to reduce inventory.
- The apparel supplier will be Always in Stitches this year. Online ordering is available. Pete hopes to keep a smaller inventory and have a quick turn around on orders.
- Looking into adding stadium seats, blankets and window clings to the merchandise opportunities.
Membership:
- The QBC membership tri-fold was gone over to consider for improvements. It was agreed it had too much information and needed to be cleaned up. Becky will bring a new proof to the next meeting.
- A discussion was held on membership cost and different ways to meet the fee requirement. The discussion was tabled until the next meeting.
Publicity and Website:
- Meetings will be the 2nd Tuesday of the month at 6pm. Locations will be announced on the website.
- QBC registration forms and a link to the football players’ registration forms are available on the QBC website. (prebleqbc.com)
- Looking into bringing clinic for athletic physicals to the summer camp.
Concessions: Julie and Paul were present but did not have anything new to report.
Banquet: No report provided.
50/50: Patti Harrill & Julie Dougherty volunteered for this position. No report provided
Treasurer’s Report:
- Kim asked each committee chair take care of deposits the night of event and report the deposits to her. They were asked to maintain their own budgets and report to Kim.
- Player photo buttons were discussed. In the past, other sport teams came to the QBC to have them make buttons and they were charged. The supplies only need to be purchased every 2 years. Extra buttons are sold keeping the button program in the profit column.
- Banquet cost increased slightly by having the banquet at Riverside. However, with negotiations and utilizing prices for kids’ meals, the cost would come down. The overwhelming feeling was to continue with the banquet at an off-site location. It will be budgeted as an expense.
- The Coach’s potential QBC costs: Huddle ($800/year), team food for away games and summer camp, equipment the district will not cover, and supplementing asst. coach pay.
- Coach mentioned a long-term goal might be field improvements, including artificial turf for the football field.
- The 2012/2013 budget will be finalized at the next meeting.
The next meeting is March 13, 2012, at 6pm at Preble High School.
The meeting adjourned at 8:45pm.
