Week 9
Preble finishes regular season with best record since 2008

The Green Bay Preble Hornets used five Brad Boockmeier touchdown runs and good special teams play as they finished a very successful regular season on a winning note by defeating the Green Bay East Red Devils 42-7 Friday night in Fox River Classic Conference football at a windy and wet City Stadium.

The Hornets (7-2, 6-2) finish in a three-way tie for second with Green Bay Southwest and Pulaski, two games behind undefeated conference champion Manitowoc. These four schools along with Green Bay Notre Dame have clinched playoff berths from the FRCC. Ashwaubenon should make the field with a 5-4 overall record along with a 4-4 conference record. Bay Port and DePere will have to wait for the pairings to find out if they are in as well since they finished with 4-5 overall records.

Week 9
Preble JV ends season with a huge win over Green Bay East

After Green Bay East scored a touchdown on the second play from scrimmage, the Green Bay Preble Hornet JV football scored 52 unanswered points to rebound nicely from the previous week and finish off the 2011 season on an extremely high note by beating the Red Devils 52-14 at Gauthier Family Stadium Monday afternoon.

The Red Devils broke a 61-yard touchdown run by Isaiah Turner to take a quick 6-0 lead with just 27 seconds off the clock. The lead only lasted about three minutes.

On the ensuing possession, the Hornets put together a nice 8-play, 66 yard drive that was capped off with a 9-yard touchdown run by Jake Birkholz that tied the game at 6. The next scoring drive was set up on an interception by Brett Possley at the East 37 yard line. Four plays later, Curtis McLaurin scampered in for a 21-yard touchdown run. Jon Witte ran in the 2-point conversion to make the score 14-6.

Freshman Highlights

Week 9

The freshman Preble Hornets made their first trip to East High a memorable one.  Noah Verheyden ran for a 50 yard TD on the first play from scrimmage.  The Hornet defense forced a three and out and Riley Vanden Plas scored two plays later.  The extra point made it 13-0.  More solid defense gave up no yards to the Red Devils.  Wood completed to Drohman for 19 yards and Verheyden tacked on another 20, but then for the first and only time this season, a Preble pass was picked off.  Before the quarter was over, Nick Richardson returned the favor with a nice pick of his own.

A few plays into the second quarter, Verheyden and Charle$ added 7 pts to the scoreboard.  The defense dominated again, culminating with a Hunter Cook interception.  Verheyden would take the ball 87 yards for a touchdown and Charle$ added another to make it 27-0.  Still stingy on defense, East was forced to punt after Rehberg offered up a tackle with a loss of 5.  Then, say it with me….Antoniooo Corrrroonaaaa scratched an itch that has been bothering him since game 3.  His first touch of the ball since breaking his collar bone was an unabated 31 yard touchdown.  Welcome back A.J.!  Charle$ added another.  The defense ensured a scoreless half for the Red Devils who are behind 34-0 as the last half of the season begins.

The third quarter was more of the same for East who after going three and out again watched Preble march down the field and score on a Casey Nelson 21 yard bolt with $ bringing the score to 41-0.  Andres Ramirez made a nice tackle against East but a few plays later, the Red Devils finally found their way into the end zone.  PAT no good… 41-6.  David Sabatka came in at QB and Casey Nelson added another notch to his TD belt from 40 yards out.  Sensing a bit of fury from the Devil’s bench, Charle$ thought it best to miss one to show his human side.

The fourth quarter proved to be more productive but very painful for the Red Devils as Wendricks and #41 combined for a sack.  Noah Grunwaldt along with #52 and #41 got into the tackling and Ryan Ray closed out the 2011 season with a sack.

Final score 47-6.

The 2011 Preble freshman finished the season 7-1 and outscored their opponents 260-79!

Congratulations Preble Hornets!
